Ellen White: God gives grace hoping we’ll want more

Friday, December 21st, 2007

“It is no real evidence that you are a Christian because your  emotion is stirred, your spirit stirred by truth. The question is, Are you growing up into Christ, your living head? Is the grace of Christ  manifested in your life? God gives His grace to men, that they may desire more of His grace. God’s grace is ever working upon the human heart, and when it is received, the evidence of its reception will appear in the life and character of its recipient, for spiritual life will be seen developing from within. The grace of Christ in the heart will always promote spiritual life, and spiritual advancement will be made. We each need a personal Saviour or we shall perish in our sins.” Ellen White, That I May Know Him, p. 163

Ellen White: God in Christ became poor so that we could become rich

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

“Christ gave up his high command in the heavenly courts, and laying aside his royal robe and kingly crown, he clothed his divinity with humanity. For our sake he became poor in earthly riches and advantages, that human beings might be rich in the eternal weight of glory. He took his place at the head of the human family, and consented to endure in our behalf the trials and temptations that sin has brought.” Ellen White, Review & Herald, July 4, 1912

Ellen White: God’s forgiveness is personal and individual

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

“Here is where thousands are failing. They do not really believe that Jesus pardons them individually. They fail to take God at His word. He has assured us that He is faithful that hath promised to forgive us and be just to His own law. His mercy is not wanting in anything. Were there one defective link in the chain, then we are hopelessly ruined in our sins… There is not one flaw in it, not one missing link. Oh, precious redemption! Why do we not bring this great truth more fully into our lives? How broad it is, that God for Christ’s sake forgives us–me, even me–the moment we ask Him to, in living faith, believing that He is fully able to do this.” Ellen White, The Upward Look, p. 219 [Letter 85, July 24, 1886, to Uriah Smith, editor of the Review and Herald]

Ellen White: Don’t worry yourself out of Jesus’ arms

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

“I have evidence–the very best–that God loves you. He will not thrust you from Him in your weakness, for He loves you. Do not worry yourself out of the arms of Jesus, but just repose in restful quietude in His love.” Ellen White, Manuscript Releases, vol. 16, p. 243

Ellen White: Jesus understands our weakness and does not reject us because of our mistakes

Monday, December 17th, 2007

“You have the pledged word of Jehovah: ‘Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.’ Only rely with trusting faith as a child relies in the promises of his faithful parent. Here is simple, earnest faith and confidence in Jesus, who loves you, and has paid a dear price for your redemption. Your life may look to you to be full of mistakes; but what if there are mistakes? Jesus knows all about the trials, the weaknesses of humanity, and He has placed on record the most precious promises: ‘If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;’ ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’” Ellen White, Manuscript Releases, vol. 16, p. 242

Ellen White: Hope for humanity is found in the Incarnation

Monday, December 17th, 2007

“In contemplating the incarnation of Christ in humanity, we stand baffled before an unfathomable mystery that the human mind cannot comprehend. The more we reflect upon it, the more amazing does it appear. How wide is the contrast between the divinity of Christ and the helpless infant in Bethlehem’s manger! How can we span the distance between the mighty God and a helpless child? And yet the creator of worlds, He in whom was the fulness of the Godhead bodily, was manifest in the helpless babe in the manger. Far higher than any of the angels, equal with the Father in dignity and glory, and yet wearing the garb of humanity! Divinity and humanity were mysteriously combined, and man and God became one. It is in this union that we find the hope of our fallen race.” Ellen White, Signs of the Times, July 30, 1896

Ellen White: Understanding Christ’s character is an infinite journey

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

“As the worker studies the life of Christ, and the character of His mission is dwelt upon, each fresh search will reveal something more deeply interesting than has yet been unfolded. The subject is inexhaustible. The study of the incarnation of Christ, His atoning sacrifice and mediatorial work, will employ the mind of the diligent student as long as time shall last.” Ellen White, Gospel Workers, p. 251

Ellen G. White: The Incarnation refutes Satan’s lies

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

“The only plan that could be devised to save the human race was that which called for the incarnation, humiliation, and crucifixion of the Son of God, the Majesty of heaven. After the plan of salvation was devised, Satan could have no ground upon which to found his suggestion that God, because so great, could care nothing for so insignificant a creature as man.” Ellen White, The Signs of the Times, Jan. 20, 1890

Ellen White: God’s wisdom in His Word

Friday, December 14th, 2007

“In God’s word is found wisdom unquestionable, inexhaustible–wisdom that originated, not in the finite, but in the infinite mind. But much of that which God has revealed in His word is dark to men, because the jewels of truth are buried beneath the rubbish of human wisdom and tradition. To many the treasures of the word remain hidden, because they have not been searched for with earnest perseverance until the golden precepts were understood. The word must be searched in order to purify and prepare those who receive it to become members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King.” Ellen White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 132

Ellen G. White: The pursuit of truth is an unending journey

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

“God intends that, even in this life, truth shall be ever unfolding to His people. There is only one way in which this knowledge can be obtained. We can attain to an understanding of God’s word only through the illumination of that Spirit by which the word was given. ‘The things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God;’ ‘for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.’ And the Saviour’s promise to His followers was: ‘When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth. . . . For He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you.’” Ellen White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p.703
