Ellen White: Flowers and trees reveal God’s skill and power

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

“Creation speaks to us of the skill and power of God. In His goodness God has placed on the earth beautiful flowers and trees, wonderfully adapted to the countries and the climate in which they grow. And, though sin has marred the form and beauty of the things of nature, though on them there may be seen traces of the work of the prince of the power of the air, yet they still speak of God, and still reveal some of the beauty of Eden.” Ellen White, The Upward Look, p. 334

Ellen White: God is good to both righteous and wicked

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

“God saw that the world was destitute of true knowledge, and he sent Christ into the world to live the law and represent him. This was the revelation of God in Jesus Christ. The knowledge of God was the chief treasure Christ brought to man. It was his prerogative to impart this knowledge, and he gave it to his disciples to be given to the world. Christ gave lessons that men might be impressed with his justice, condescension, and love. To the just and the unjust he gives a distinct representation of the divine goodness God has manifested in their behalf…” Ellen White, GCB, October 1, 1899

Ellen White: God’s wants his glory visible in every individual

Monday, October 29th, 2007

“All the light of the past, all the light which shines in the present and reaches forth into the future, as revealed in the Word of God, is for every soul who will receive it. The glory of this light, which is the very glory of the character of Christ, is to be manifested in the individual Christian, in the family, in the church, in the ministry of the Word, and in every institution established by God’s people. All these the Lord designs shall be symbols of what can be done for the world. They are to be types of the saving power of the truths of the gospel…” Ellen White, God’s Amazing Grace, p. 229

Ellen White: God’s glory is revealed through nature.

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

“With the wild mountains surrounding him, alone with God, Moses had a precious opportunity to learn himself, to discern his pride and self-exaltation, and to overcome the habits formed amid the luxury, ease, and indulgence of court life. The magnificent temples of Egypt were no longer before his eyes, impressing his mind with their superstition and falsehood. Amid the towering rocks and everlasting hills he could behold the evidences of the Creator’s greatness and majesty, and power, and contrast with the insignificance of the gods of Egypt. Every where the Creator’s name was written. Moses was surrounded with his presence, and covered with his overshadowing GLORY God himself was speaking to his servant through these mute representatives of his power.” Ellen White, Signs of the Times, February 19, 1880

Ellen White: Jesus was gentle yet uncompromising

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

“Jesus loved children, and ever influenced them for good. He cared for the poor and needy even in his childhood. In every gentle, tender, and submissive way he sought to please those with whom he came in contact; but though so gentle and submissive, no one could lead him to do anything that was contrary to the word of God. Some admired his perfection of character, and often sought to be with him; but others who regarded the sayings of men more than the word of God, turned away from him, and avoided his company. Throughout his childhood and youth, he manifested the same perfection of character as marked his after life.” Ellen White, Youth Instructor, December 12, 1895

Ellen White: Jesus alone makes forgiveness possible

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Salvation comes only from God and not from our human efforts. Jesus’ death on the cross restored the broken link between God and us. It made forgiveness of our sins possible and showed our complete dependance on God. Forgiveness comes by accepting the perfection of Jesus to cover our sinfulness. He is the only link between God and humanity. [a contemporary language paraphrase of Ellen White, -Ed.]

Ellen White: Connecting with God leads to abudant praise for His character

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

“The bright and cheerful side of our religion will be represented by all who are daily consecrated to God. . . . While we review, not the dark chapters in our experience, but the manifestations of God’s great mercy and unfailing love, we shall praise far more than complain. We shall talk of the loving faithfulness of God as the true, tender, compassionate shepherd of His flock, which He has declared that none shall pluck out of His hand. The language of the heart will not be selfish murmuring and repining. Praise, like clear-flowing streams, will come from God’s truly believing ones.” Ellen White, God’s Amazing Grace, p. 76

Ellen White: People will fail us, Jesus is faithful

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

“We are prone to look to our fellow men for sympathy and uplifting, instead of looking to Jesus. In His mercy and faithfulness God often permits those in whom we place confidence to fail us, in order that we may learn the folly of trusting in man and making flesh our arm. Let us trust fully, humbly, unselfishly in God. He knows the sorrows that we feel to the depths of our being, but which we cannot express. When all things seem dark and unexplainable, remember the words of Christ, “What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” John 13:7.” Ellen White, Ministry of Healing p. 486

Ellen White: Jesus is immortal. Mankind is not.

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

“All created beings live by the will and power of God. They are recipients of the life of the Son of God. However able and talented, however large their capacities, they are replenished with life from the Source of all life. He is the spring, the fountain, of life. Only He who alone hath immortality dwelling in light and life, should say, “I have power to lay it {my life} down, and I have power to take it again” (verse 18). . . Christ was invested with the right to give immortality The life which He had laid down in humanity, He again took up and gave to humanity. . . ” Ellen White, That I May Know Him, p. 71

Ellen White: Only God is immortal

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

“Immortality, promised to man on condition of obedience, had been forfeited by transgression. Adam could not transmit to his posterity that which he did not possess; and there could have been no hope for the fallen race had not God, by the sacrifice of His Son, brought immortality within their reach. While ‘death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned,’ Christ ‘hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.’ Romans 5:12; 2 Timothy 1:10. And only through Christ can immortality be obtained. Said Jesus: ‘He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life.’ John 3:36. Every man may come into possession of this priceless blessing if he will comply with the conditions. All ‘who by patient continuance in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality,’ will receive ‘eternal life.’ Romans 2:7.” Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p. 533
