Ellen White: Followers of Jesus are called to seek His holiness

Monday, January 7th, 2008

“The apostle’s great love for the Corinthian believers was revealed in his tender greeting to the church. He referred to their experience in turning from idolatry to the worship and service of the true God. He reminded them of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which they had received, and showed that it was their privilege to make continual advancement in the Christian life until they should attain to the purity and holiness of Christ. ‘In everything ye are enriched by Him,’ he wrote, ‘in all utterance, and in all knowledge; even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ Ellen White, Acts of the Apostles, 301

Ellen G. White: God’s mercy and justice necessitated the cross

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

“The words of Christ, “I am the resurrection, and the life,” were distinctly heard by the Roman guard. The whole army of Satan heard them. And we understand them when we hear. Christ had come to give his life a ransom for many. As the Good Shepherd, he had laid down his life for the sheep. It was the righteousness of God to maintain his law by inflicting the penalty. This was the only way in which the law could be maintained, and pronounced holy, and just, and good. It was the only way by which sin could be made to appear exceeding sinful, and the honor and majesty of divine authority be maintained.” Ellen White, Youth Instructor, August 4, 1898

Ellen White: God’s children called to live his character in this world

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

“This name is hallowed by the angels of heaven, by the inhabitants of unfallen worlds. When you pray, ‘Hallowed be Thy name,’ you ask that it may be hallowed in this world, hallowed in you. God has acknowledged you before men and angels as His child; pray that you may do no dishonor to the ‘worthy name by which ye are called.’ James 2:7. God sends you into the world as His representative. In every act of life you are to make manifest the name of God. This petition calls upon you to possess His character. You cannot hallow His name, you cannot represent Him to the world, unless in life and character you represent the very life and character of God. This you can do only through the acceptance of the grace and righteousness of Christ.” Ellen White, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings, p. 107

Ellen White: God longs for his Divine character to shine in us.

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

“Those who are waiting to behold a magical change in their characters, without a determined effort on their part, will be disappointed. With our limited powers we are to be as holy in our sphere as God is holy in His sphere. To the extent of our ability we are to make manifest the truth and love and excellence of the divine character, and for this reason we must draw from the living fountain.” Ellen White, Review & Herald, Nov. 1, 1892 [emphasis supplied]

Ellen White: The law reveals God’s holiness

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

“’All the sons of God shouted for joy.’ But sin entered the world. And during their years of bondage, the children of Israel lost sight of the commandments. God delivered His people from bondage, and from Mount Sinai proclaimed to them His law. Look at this law. It is God’s holiness made known. It is an expression of God’s goodness; for it makes known what the Creator expects from His creatures.” Ellen White, Review & Herald, June 4, 1901
