Ellen White: The world sees God’s character in His people

Monday, March 24th, 2008

“All the light of the past, all the light which shines in the present and reaches forth into the future, as revealed in the Word of God, is for every soul who will receive it. The glory of this light, which is the very glory of the character of Christ, is to be manifested in the individual Christian, in the family, in the church, in the ministry of the Word, and in every institution established by God’s people… By beholding the goodness, the mercy, the justice, and the love of God revealed in the church, the world is to have a representation of His character.”  Ellen White, God’s Amazing Grace, p. 229

Ellen White: True followers of God are humble

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

“The adorning that is of value with God is a meek and quiet spirit, and it is of more value than gold and silver and precious gems. The attributes of God are goodness, mercy, love, long-suffering, and patience, and his followers are to possess the same attributes of character, representing Christ in true spirituality. meekness, the treasure of inward wealth, may be possessed in the midst of poverty and sorrow. The soul reveals the source of its strength in the manifestation of meekness and lowliness of heart; for the grace of meekness has its origin in the source of all blessedness, and those who possess this grace are in harmony with Christ and the Father. The followers of Christ thus become one with each other. If meekness and love are not a part of our character, we are not the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, and our whole experience is feeble and uncertain.”  Ellen White, Signs of the Times, August 22, 1895

Ellen White: God’s wisdom, goodness, power are infinite

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

“If it were possible for created beings to attain to a full understanding of God and His works, then, having reached this point, there would be for them no further discovery of truth, no growth in knowledge, no further development of mind or heart. God would no longer be supreme; and men, having reached the limit of knowledge and attainment, would cease to advance. Let us thank God that it is not so. God is infinite; in Him are “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” And to all eternity men may be ever searching, ever learning, and yet they can never exhaust the treasures of His wisdom, His goodness, and His power.” Ellen White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 703

Ellen White: God’s love revealed in battle between good and evil

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

“The history of the great conflict between good and evil, from the time it first began in heaven to the final overthrow of rebellion and the total eradication of sin, is also a demonstration of God’s unchanging love” Ellen White, Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 33

Ellen White: God is light; His people are to be light

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

“All the light of the past, all the light which shines in the present and reaches forth into the future, as revealed in the Word of God, is for every soul who will receive it. The glory of this light, which is the very glory of the character of Christ, is to be manifested in the individual Christian, in the family, in the church, in the ministry of the Word, and in every institution established by God’s people. All these the Lord designs shall be symbols of what can be done for the world. They are to be types of the saving power of the truths of the gospel. . By beholding the goodness, the mercy, the justice, and the love of God revealed in the church, the world is to have a representation of His character. It is the most important work ever entrusted to human beings;and never before was its diligent study so important as now.” Ellen White, God’s Amazing Grace, p. 229

Ellen White: God loves sinners

Monday, November 19th, 2007

“Repeat to them the precious assurance which God Himself has given to them: I am ‘The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin’ (Ex. 34:6, 7). What a precious declaration is this! What can be too hard for Him, what sin too great for Him to pardon? He is gracious, not working according to our merit, but in His boundless goodness healing our backslidings, forgiving our iniquities, and loving us freely while we were yet sinners.” Ellen White, Manuscript Releases Vol. 19, p. 303

Ellen White: Fallen humans striving for holiness receive power from God placing them higher than unfallen angels

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

“The work of redemption involved consequences of which it is difficult for man to have any conception. There was to be imparted to the human being striving for conformity to the divine image an outlay of heaven’s treasures, an excellency of power, which would place him higher than the angels who had not fallen. The battle has been fought, the victory won. The controversy between sin and righteousness exalted the Lord of heaven, and established before the saved human family, before the unfallen worlds, before all the host of evil workers, from the greatest to the least, God’s holiness, mercy, goodness, and wisdom. Christ’s sacrifice exalted the law, proving that it was from the beginning, and would be through all eternity, from everlasting to everlasting.” Ellen White, GCB, October 1, 1899

Ellen White: The law reveals God’s holiness

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

“’All the sons of God shouted for joy.’ But sin entered the world. And during their years of bondage, the children of Israel lost sight of the commandments. God delivered His people from bondage, and from Mount Sinai proclaimed to them His law. Look at this law. It is God’s holiness made known. It is an expression of God’s goodness; for it makes known what the Creator expects from His creatures.” Ellen White, Review & Herald, June 4, 1901

Ellen White: God’s goodness revealed even in destruction

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

“The utter destruction of the people of Jericho was but a fulfillment of the commands previously given through Moses concerning the inhabitants of Canaan: ‘Thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them.’ Deuteronomy 7:2. ‘Of the cities of these people, . . . thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth.’ Deuteronomy 20:16. To many these commands seem to be contrary to the spirit of love and mercy enjoined in other portions of the Bible, but they were in truth the dictates of infinite wisdom and goodness. God was about to establish Israel in Canaan, to develop among them a nation and government that should be a manifestation of His kingdom upon the earth. They were not only to be inheritors of the true religion, but to disseminate its principles throughout the world. The Canaanites had abandoned themselves to the foulest and most debasing heathenism, and it was necessary that the land should be cleared of what would so surely prevent the fulfillment of God’s gracious purposes.” Ellen White, Patriarchs and Propehts, p. 492
